SNAP!!!!!
Random title but it's cause I've been doing two of things of late so it seems appropritate ^_^ Neeways
Shopping - yes, you read that right Ryu-chan has been shopping, twice. Well once and then the second time was that I needed to get to the doctors. On Monday I walk up with the dog, go into Boots to order a repeat subscription and then head into Clair's to get some presents for those of you who are going to Rocky Horror this coming Friday. Nope you don't get to find out what they are until you arrive at mine (or meet us in the case of Dash and Mat and you two will be wearing yours or else). Then go home and chill out before work. Then on Wednesday head back up, taking the dog for another long walk, to go to the doc's to collect the perscription and find out that I have to have an appointment for it so go to the docs and book one. The next day go and find out I've got the wrong thing so I'm going this coming Tuesday to get that sorted out.
Work - been fairly okay actually, which was all good. Ahmed was reading .Hack//Legend of the Twilight Bracelet on Sat cause he was determind to get through it but I don't know if he finished it or not. Also today Wilf, another mate of mine on the team, came up with two rather interesting facts that he heard on BBC Radio 4. They run as thus 'Out of all the Crisps consumed in the E.U over 50% are consumed in Britian' and 'Newcastle is the Sickest City in the E.U as we have had the highest work sickeness rate over the last twelve months'. Rather ironically funny no? lol
Date with Wayne - hehe went out on a date with Wayne on Sunday night to Gosforth Race Course for the Marvellous 06 music fest and it was a whole lot of fun. We had The UK Beachboys who were rather odd and interesting and the keyboard went which was quite funny as they were trying to play Beachboy songs with a piano which did work in it's own way, The Illegal Eagels who were really good and got over half the audience going which was fantastic and then One Night Of Queen! OMG they were so much fun and I may keep and eye out for mam cause she's a major fan of them. Seriously go and see them cause they are brilliant (the guy whose Freddy won Stars in Their Eyes I believe and you an tell why) and it was great cause at one point they were singing on stage by then switched to a CD backing track (I think during Bohemined Rapsody or one of the others which I can't think of now) and there was like no difference it was that freaky. Wayne was really loving every minuet as well, not just cause he was with me as he always enjoys that but because he liked all the bands and was singing along with them all which was great as well. ^_^
Movies - Snap. Been to the cinema twice this week. The first was on Friday night and with Bill, Dennis, Jane and Barry from kendo as it was Bill's last night and I wouldn't get to see him ever again really so I went along for a laugh. The 11:20 showing which was a bit stupid but it was worth it. Went and saw X-Men 3 and even though a lot of people are dissing it to hell I think that it's the best out of the three and does it's job exceptionally well. It's a very finely crafted film that just flows along and unlike the other two doesn't spend flipping ages on the characterisation. Don't get me wrong I really like the other two cause they're cool - and it's X-Men - but boy did they spend ages developing characters who they really didn't use as well as they could. Aka Rouge had quite a strong role in the first one and then was faded out in the last two whilst Beast wasn't in the first two and yet they get him pratically sorted out within a movie. Strange but true, and thanks Nashi (if you still read my blog) and Mamo for ranting on about X-men and the different sagas otherwise I may have gotten a bit lost. Not an awful lot as it's easy watching but there were a couple of bits where I was thankful I knew the story background.
Then on Saturday I went and saw The Da Vinchi Code with my parents. Hmmm let's say that it was a film that could have been done so much better. It started off pretty strong with the right sort of atmosphere and styling that made things go along very well and set up the situation perfectly. Then it got half-way through and suddenly the screen became the most easiest thing to read in the world, the mystery and suspence flew out of the window and the plot twists became so apparent that by the end I was kinda going what the hell? I mean yes you can never get as good as a book - for the simple undeniable reason that a book can take up a load of pages to explain things and let you get really involved whereas a film has on average 90minutes to tell you a whole story in visuals which is blinking hard to do - but it got laugable. Forgive the media student escaping here but even my mum and dad could read the screen easily and weren't too pleased about it. It should have been really fantastic and full but ended up feeling very cheep and nasty and done at the last minute. I give credit to Tom Hanks who was acting his little socks off to try and pull it around as he did a good job of everything and the Angel Serilos or whatever he was called - the white haired monk dude who looks like the guy from Blade Runner but isn't - was really good and creepy as this bad guy type person as were most of the small parts but overall it fell completely to pieces. There was no craft invovled - even at the beginning - which really annoyed me. Now if someone like Ridley Scott or James Cameron had gotten hold of it you can imagine that it would have been fantastic with proper suspence and stlying and a deep mystery with the screen layered into many different story aspects (another media student thing I do where I read the layers of the film for signifiers and stuff) but it just didn't happen which I was annoyed about.
Anyway media rant over now.
Kendo - SNAP!!! Been to kendo twice this week which has been really fun. Friday night was a pretty cool night as we did the usual routines and stuff but when we did our Kirry Kihash and Keigehio the Sensai's kept moving around whilst we stayed put which meant that I faced Darren, Dennis, Barry, Jane, Bill and Bo which was really good pratice. Then we did a pratice Sheigao which is pratice for a compotition and I ended up against Bo scoring a point on him which I think was a men which is quite good for me and then he got told to fight me properly and got two kote's on me. *shrugs* then the second time round I ended up against Cheral and she got a kote on me (we were doing Ipon or one point win) just a second before I got a men but she's getting good so I didn't really care anyway. Then poor Bill got to play target pratice as it's a final goodbye ritual of the guy stands and gets constantly attacked by all the other members of the Dojo for about five minuets with no break. He was wreaked after it bless him but it was fun all the same. And at the end when we were bowing to him he smiled when I came forward and said 'My Lady' which I thought was really nice and sweet of him ^_^ Then went to the pub on a implus decision and the film as mentioned earlier.
Then on sunday from ten till two, I went to kendo once again but this time for a seminar with Honda-san. Now I'll let you all know who Honda-san is. He is one of the highest ranked Kendo pratictioners in Britian and is the British Kendo Squad Sensei. He is the best for a damn good reason and getting trained by him would be the equilvent of getting a really famous person giving you a lecture in univercity. So this guy is someone fantastic to learn off and so great as well. I had a seminar previously with him when I went for my grading if you all remember. Anyway getting on with things, out of the Dojo there was me, Cheral, Mark, Dash, Dennis, Barry, Jane, Bo, Jo, Darren, John and then the sensei from Edingbrough but no Ruth-san which was a shame but never mind. So we go through the training and stuff which is really good and have a lot of fun. As we're doing a pratice of men cuts in different ways, Honda-san stops everyone and turns to me asking me to repeat my men cuts. I'm a little bit on the panicky side for obvious reasons but I two two and muck up the third and quickly appologise but he smiles and says that it's okay. He then turns to the rest of the dojo and tells them that they should be all doing what I'm doing which is extending my kai out. Basically Darren taught us that when your praticing you keep your spirit going all the way until you've finished the cut fully and are back at tu-dan which is normal fighting stance. I had done this and got complimented for it! I got complimented off Honda-san for my kai and I'm still bouncing around because of it. It's a great feeling! After that we did a little more praticing and then a half-hour keigao session where we swapped around in the opposite direction and everyone got to face Honda-san. OMG! I can say that he was fantastic to fence against because he brings his kendo level down to your own and teaches you. I think I got a men cut on him cause at one point he blocked me and I noticed that his men was open so I took it and got a little 'oh' and a blink of the eyes but it wouldn't have won anyway but I don't care. It was just a fantastic day and I'm still in pain from it because the skin on the bottom of my feet totally hardened up which made walking interesting, the lower parts of my legs have seezed up, I've got a massive bruise on my right wrist and arm and one on my leg curitosy of Barry. But it was still a totally fantastic session and I'm totally going to remember it for a long time ^_^
Well if you've got through all that then I'm impresssed ^_^
